Serbian science „star on the rise” Štampaj E-pošta
Thursday, 04 February 2010
Serbia is the world “Star on the rise” in several scientific areas, Science Watch announced and the daily “Politika” published.

A serious breakthrough in publishing scientific papers/works was seen in the following fields: Biology and Biochemistry, Chemistry, Clinical medicine, Computer science, Science on materials, Mathematics, Engineering, Neuroscience, Pharmacology and Toxicology and Physics.

An equally important news is that amongst the “stars on the rise” are two Serbian scientists - academic Ivan Gutman from the Faculty of Mathematics, University of Kragujevac (for the period August – October 2008; published in March 2009) and dr Stevo Stevic from the Mathematical Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts SANU (for the period June – August 2008; published in January 2009) and October – December 2008; published in May 2009).

Serbia was singled out a few times last year on the website of Thomson Reuters when a detailed report was published for tendencies in the basic scientific research

In the past decade Serbia has preceded regional countries in the number of scientific papers and works, leaving Slovenia, Bulgaria and Croatia lagging behind.

For Serbian researchers the most fruitful years were 2007 (2.054 works) and 2008 (2.558 works). 2009 seems to be a successful year as well with more than 2.000 works (the count until end October was 1.991).
